Feeling unworthy of love is one of the biggest obstacles many Christians face. It’s not for lack of loving God—because we love and admire God deeply. The challenge is in offering ourselves the same healing love in return. Spiritual practices can’t make up for a lack of true relationship, and relationship requires both giving and receiving.
If we don’t confront our feelings of unworthiness, we will only be able to speak about God’s perfect love—we won’t actually be healed or transformed by it. Jesus embodied what right relationship with God looks like—perfect giving and perfect receiving. He had a true partnership with God and knew His love intimately.
This is the love He was able to extend to others because we can only give what we’ve received. Without this deeper understanding, Christianity remains just a collection of nice things we talk about on Sunday—it isn’t real until it’s experienced. God’s love must be experienced to be fully understood.
So, if you want to have stronger faith, start by allowing yourself to receive God’s love until your trust in it is restored. If you want to stop sinning, offer yourself the goodness of God’s love so you no longer desire to settle for less. If you want to offer God’s love to the world, make sure you’re allowing yourself to receive it first.
If you don’t feel worthy of receiving God’s great love, I can help you heal that. In coaching sessions, we’ll work together to overcome feelings of unworthiness and restore your ability to fully receive the love God has always intended for you.
